As soon as the tutorial is finished and a Flutterpedia Score of 
300 is reached, you can participate in Events.
Events can last for a weekend or up to two weeks. There will also be a timer for the length of the event duration in the top left corner of the screen.
Every now and then, there's an event ongoing in your forest. You'll get a notification, when you open your game.
It can be a Main Event, where brand new species of moths can be obtained, or a Weekend Bonus Event, where rewards are doubled, or helps players progress through the game.

Main Events[]
Main Events are the biggest types of events in the game; these events will reward players with special exclusive moths & special exclusive Decorations with Special Abilities.
These types of Events last a fortnight (14 Days). Sometimes, during these events, the forest will become decorated with decorations & items related to that event, & Michelle & Trevor may wear event costumes.
Interesting to know, all event sets of the same type have similar set icons:
flower 
for Firefly events and star 
for Wisp events.
Wisp Events[]
Wisp Event How-To-Play
Wisp Events were formerly known as Capture before being officially named as Wisp Events.

The Wisp Mother will appear in the forest, & will be sleeping behind some bushes a few days before a Wisp Event begins. Once the event starts, she will appear with her true appearance for that particular event, spawning a few White Common Wisps for the player to capture to start off the event.
Every two hours, she will be ready to spawn more wisps, & tapping her will spawn a random number of Wisps, usually between three to five.
There are Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary Wisps, each signified by a different color.
Each wisp type has its own catch rate, with Common having the highest catch rate, and Legendary having the lowest.
However, as of June 1st 2023, an update has changed all decorations with Special Abilities related to Wisp Events into different ones, since Wisp Events have been temporarily retired.

Firefly Events[]
Firefly Event How-To-Play

During one of these events, every 2-3 hours, when players harvest coins from moths, special purple fireflies will appear alongside the normal firefly, usually up to 3 or 4 of them. However, there have been Firefly Events with a minimum of 2 Fireflies.
When one of these special fireflies is fed to Trevor, players will receive an event attraction flower (10%).
Each of these flowers will usually either correspond to the moth's rarity (White, Green, Blue, Purple & Gold) or will have the same patterns as the actual event moth it attracts.
Firefly Events may have been temporarily retired, similarly to Wisp Events.

Ant Events[]

Upcoming: Monday 26th June 2023 (Lizzie Media), Wednesday 5th July 2023 (Unknown Ant), Friday 14th July 2023, Sunday 23rd July 2023 (Unknown Ant)
Lizzie Media, Dr. Sofia Minima or Maite Euspinolia will appear in the forest.
Every two hours, players will get a free spore pack, which, when opened, reveals six random spores.
Plant these spores in the garden, and after another two hours, they will be fully grown mushrooms, which can be harvested. Both the mushrooms & free spore pack can be hurried with ads, which will reduce their time to 1 hour, 30 minutes.
Upon harvesting, the mushrooms will give points, which will help players obtain various prizes, such as moths & decorations from previous events.
There are Common (white), Uncommon (green), Rare (blue), Epic (purple), and Legendary (gold) spores.
Rarer spores give more points when harvested as fully grown mushrooms. When a milestone is reached by earning a set amount of points, players will receive a reward.
Complete the event to receive an exclusive decoration from one of the past events!
It is the only other way to get moths & exclusive decorations from past events that players may have missed other than from Decoration Sales.
Since both Wisp Events & Firefly Events have been temporarily retired while game mechanics are being updated, Ant Events have become frequent, sometimes even replacing Weekend Bonus Events sometimes.

Weekend Bonus Events[]
A Weekend Bonus is a 3 Day Mini-Event that always have a special bonus to aid players with their games.
These Bonus Events begin at 10:00pm on Fridays & end at 10:00pm on Mondays.
Half Time Missions[]

During this event, the amount of time it takes a moth to complete a mission is halved (e.g: A Zodiac Mission, which takes 8 hours, takes only 4 hours to complete).
Can sometimes overlap with Half Price Mission Switching.

During this event, the amount of Glowbucks needed to get a moth to lay an egg is halved.
This bonus also affects Visiting Moths, meaning that the visiting moth can be obtained for a cheaper amount of Glowbucks.
Unfortunately, it never overlapped with Moth Mania.

An event where Decorations from past events are available for sale for 200 Glowbucks each.
Decoration Sale Events are rare & only happen every so often, usually occurring on special days where there's no Main Events scheduled; an example is International Women's Day 2021, where instead of a Main Event happening (like Vera), they had a Decoration Sale called "IWD Decoration Sale".
However, these Decoration Sale Events only sell decorations from past Event Booster Packs, not ones earned for completing or perfecting an Event Set, or ones for Perfecting an Event Set during the time of the original event.
As of 2020, Ant Events are the only other way to obtain past decorations other than Decoration Sale Events.

Every now & again, there are Facebook Competitions.
Some of these Facebook Competitions are dedicated to special times and dates of the year & use to often occur after a Main Event has ended, usually asking players what set a recent event moth is from for a chance to win 100 Glowbucks, or take part in contests to win free Carpenter Bees or Doug the Glowbug.
But recently, they have become much more rare & tend to only appear on special occasions, such as Halloween or Christmas.
An example of a Facebook Competition is the Brain Fungus Giveaway, which took place on the 25th October 2020, where a promo with the photo above was posted, along with this comment:
"Join us during our annual art team livestream for a chance to win this spooky Brain Fungus decoration and Glowbucks! It'll be happening on the 29th of October at 1:30 pm PST over on the Runaway Facebook page! 🎃"

During Black Friday, any players who purchased a bundle get DOUBLE the amount of Glowbucks available from the shop for the regular price!
This sale ran from Thursday, November 23, 2017, 10pm GMT to Monday, November 27, 2017 10pm GMT.
However, since Black Friday 2020, the Double Glowbucks event is still currently going as of 2021!
19th October 2017 - Convert $1 into 5 Flutterbucks/Glowbucks![]
During the Oog Event, as an extra bonus to celebrate, in order to help players who were having to also deal with Flutter's current Halloween Event, for every $1* players spent in Starlight, they would be rewarded with 5 Flutterbucks in Flutter!
This bonus went both ways too, as players who spent $1* in Flutter received 5 Glowbucks in Starlight.
Players however, needed to have both Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary & Flutter: Starlight connected to the same Facebook account.

World Singles' Day - Double Glowbucks[]
On the 11th November 2018 & 2019, Runaway celebrated World Singles' Day, the whole weekend had an offer where currency packs would give players double the currency for the normal price!

With the Cuti Set, the whole forest got decorated for the holidays – with crystals and snow! Further more, the gifts got a special design for this time of the year!
To get into the holiday spirit, the Common, and Deluxe Holiday Cactus got matching Special Abilities – to Create three Small Jolly Gifts every 4 days and to Create one Large Jolly Gift every 3 days.
Christmas 2017[]
This event celebrated Hanukkah, and was called the Shamash set. The forest was once again decorated for the holiday, in snow, and ice crystals. 'Gifts' became 'Festive Gifts' during this time.
From December 12th, for nine days, a tiny blue firefly could be collected each day you logged in. For those who collected all nine fireflies, a special reward of 20 
was received.
Shamash decorations were the Common and Deluxe Broadleaf Starflower with the Special Abilities to Add a Metallic Aura every 4 hours and to Create three Small Festive Gifts every 4 days.
A special decoration called the Pixie's Parasol was also available in the Shop, as part of a package, for the price of 100 with the ability to Create Large Festive Gift every 3 days.

- Lumen was the first event that broke the Wisp Event, Firefly Event pattern, being a Wisp Event that followed the previous Phalaina Wisp Event.
